Post 1. General
Quote:
"Be kind, for everyone you meet is fighting a harder battle." (Variously misattributed to Plato and Philo)

In general, we expect a very high level of maturity and good behavior of our members, one well over and beyond the general standard of acceptability even on a relatively good server like Defias Brotherhood.

The Path is, however, a community of adults, which means that we must respect different sensibilities, viewpoints, and tastes. This cuts both ways: we must appreciate other people's sensitivities while keeping our own in perspective.

Racism, sexism, homophobia, nationalism, bullying, whining, aggression, and other poor behavior have no place in the Luminous Path and will be dealt with swiftly and forcefully.

This Code of Conduct serves not as prudish school rules, but as a concretization of our expectations in the interest of fairness. Adhering to it is a condition of playing and raiding with us.

Post 2. Civility
Be civil to everyone. "Civil" in this case means treating them with a basic degree of respect, the same one you would expect from them.

Always:
Accept. Take your guildies' raiding advice gratefully and respectfully. If someone whispers you during or just before a bossfight, it's because they're trying to help you get better. If you disagree or are confused, ask the raid leader.

Never:
Insult. It is not only wrong, but generally makes you look worse than the person you're directing the insult at. The worse the insult, the worse you look and the worse everyone with the <Luminous Path> guild tag looks.
Harass. If someone does something you don't like, voice your objection clearly, respectfully, and forcefully; do it in a whisper to them, if necessary. Then leave it. Continuing to pester people is probably one of the worst things you can do. If someone hasn't even done anything to you in the first place, leave them alone.
Behave like a child. Ragequitting a PuG because you didn't get the loot you want is probably one of the worst things you can do in the entire game. Shouting at people in /bg is supremely unattractive. Come to think of it, nerdrage is one of the saddest things in the world. Don't be that guy.

Feel free to:
Engage in mild, educational trolling. Someone won't shut up about BoK? Spamming party chat constantly? Calling you names? Withhold the buff. DPS shouting "HEAL ME" over and over again? "Sorry man, Flash of Light is a prot talent."
Stick up for yourself and your guild. You don't have to roll over and take it when someone calls you a n00b or a ninja. But keep it factual. Explain; don't whine. The force of truth will quickly cause everyone to turn against your antagonist. If a fellow guild member gets booted from a raid unfairly, quit in solidarity.
Deal with non-performance. In a group or raid situation, you may always boot tanks who can't tank, healers who can't heal, or DPS who, if they were doing any worse, would actually be repairmen. As long as you are matter-of-fact about it, kicking someone who can't play the game is an essential part of, er, playing the game.

Post 3. Roleplaying
The RP ruleset is the highest law of this guild. Higher than the Torah, higher than the laws of thermodynamics, higher than Jude Law smoking a bong in orbit.

For reference, these are included at the end of this post.

    • Harassment of roleplayers is cause for immediate gkick without any prior warning or discussion. The damage to the reputation of the guild is too serious. People do actively report harassment to the leaders of the guild that their harasser is a member of. You will be caught, and you will be kicked.

    • In the main world, the rules about /say and /yell are to be followed at all times in all locations no matter whether anyone else is around or not. /party is not in-character.

    • The rules about /say and /yell also apply in dungeons and raids, though we may look the other way if your OOC comment is witty enough.

    • No one may be admitted to the guild with a name that we do not consider plausible for their character in RP terms. We reserve the right to require you to change the name of an alt before we will permit it in the guild.

    • The guild is full of active RPers and people who enjoy it more occasionally. If you ever want tips about how to interact in-character, please ask the guild; we'd be only too happy to offer advice.

Quote:
Role Play-Specific Verbal/Physical Harassment
This category includes:

* Players that specifically target Role Players for verbal/physical abuse (not limited to offensive language)

If a player is found to be targeting Role Players with the specific intent to harass, he/she may:

* Be temporarily suspended from the game

Out of Character (OOC) Discussion and Use of General Chat
Detailed below is the language policy enforced on the Role Play realms. Use of the /ignore command is also highly encouraged.

* The General Chat Channel should only be used for finding Story Lines (SLs), finding Party Groups and various other discussions pertaining to Base Story Line (BSL), game-related topics, and continuity
* The General Chat Channel should NOT be used for any “Off-topic,” Non-Story Line or non game-related discussion
* Absolutely no out of character (OOC) or Non-Fantasy related dialogue should take place in the /Say, /Yell, or Party Chat Channels
* Guild Chat will not be policed for any fantasy related violations
* All normal harassment rules still apply

Examples of appropriate conversation in the General Chat Channel:

* “Would anyone like to join a Rogue Specific SL?”
* “What happened to the Well of Eternity?”

Examples of inappropriate conversation in the General Chat Channel:

* “Did you see that new movie?”
* “My sister just bought a new car.”

If a player is found violating any of these rules, he/she may:

* Be given a warning
* Be temporary suspended from the game

Non-Medieval/Fantasy Character Names
This category includes:

* Any Non-Medieval or Non-Fantasy names (i.e. Microwave, Nuclearotron, Softwareman)
* All normal naming rules and the specific Roleplay naming rules.

Post 4. Character and Account Issues
We very seriously frown upon the buying and selling of characters and accounts. Since doing so can lead to a ban from Blizzard with no warning, it is not in our best interest to give raid loot to characters that could be lost at any moment.

If it comes to our attention that you are engaging in this, we may deprive you of your raid status and bank access, or, in serious cases, remove you from the guild. If an account with characters in the guild is sold or given onward to someone other than the person we originally admitted into the guild, those characters will be gkicked.

Buying and selling accounts puts the security of the guild bank at risk. All players are highly encouraged to use an Authenticator with their World of Warcraft account.

Post 5. Complaints
If you observe a violation of this code of conduct or are yourself the victim (or indeed perpetrator) of one, please get in touch with Vedder, Savian, Arache or Jotra immediately. If none of us are online, the best course of action is to immediately alt-tab to the forums and write one of us a private message.

(For feminist-theoretical and post-gender issues, please contact the Guild Gender Equality Representative, Kekrops/Iah, directly.)

Post 6. Disciplinary Measures
These are wonderfully rare, since we are fairly selective and have a very good atmosphere in the guild. If you poison that atmosphere, we'll probably go ahead and ask you to leave. Most of us are too busy playing Warcraft to put up with people who can't behave.

In technical terms, the Dragon Head, Vedder, is the officer in charge of conduct issues.
