Post Accepted — Silvanesti - Frostfire Mage
NAME: Silvanesti
Race/Class: Blood Elf Mage
Main Spec: Frostfire
Primary Professions: Enchanting (450), Tailoring (450)
Armory Link: http://eu.wowarmory.com/character-sheet ... silvanesti
Fishing Skill: 450

What's your name and where are you from?
My name is Jaydee (JD) and I am from the United Kingdom

How old are you? Please give your answer in Reverse Polish Notation.
I am over 20. I don't know what Reverse Polish Notation is, nor can I really figure it out! ^_^

How long have you been playing WoW? (may also help explain strangely high fishing skills)
Been a year now.

Is this your main? How often do you play this character? Tell us about your other characters, including any serious alts.
Yes, this is my main. I play on Silvanesti pretty often, I also have another alt I started playing on another server - a human warlock, level 56 at the moment. I tend to spend most of my time on Silvanesti.

What's your guild history? Are you in a guild right now? Are you leaving that guild because of some drama you caused? Cause one thing we really don't want is drama... No, you say? Then why are you leaving?
I have moved servers very recently so I am not in a guild at the moment. I have been in casual guilds before, but never really a proper raiding guild. I have never had problems in my previous guilds.

Provide the names of some people we can get in touch with in-game as references. If you know anyone on the Path, either in-game or IRL, mention that here also.
In game, I know Gorganoth (although I have not had the chance to let him know I have moved to Defias Brotherhood!!). I also know Kobo (IRL), a warrior thats also applying.

What is your role in raids? How do you judge whether you're doing a good job or not?
I am DPS, I use Recount to make sure I am staying on top and making the most of my skills/gear (though I am aware that Recount isn't accurate). I also help with crowd control if needed, and I provide intellect and food - as well as maxed out cooking - I can provide Fish Feasts, etc.

What's your PvE experience like?
I have raided Naxx10/25 many times, and OS, EoE, etc. I have only done 2 bosses of TotC and I have yet to experience the new raid. I have done half of Ulduar 10 and parts of Ulduar 25.

Describe your choice of spec, how you came to your current build, and any other things you feel we should know about why you spent your talent points the way you did.
I chose Frostfire over the more common spec, Arcane, because personally, its a spec that suits me the most and it is a rotation that I know inside out. It is also brilliant for raiding as I don't run out of mana so much. It is about skills, not just gear/spec, and I believe I am pretty good at making the most out of Frostfire.

Where do you go to read about your class outside of the game?
I usually research on Wowhead, Wowwiki, or the official forums.

Obviously you're here for the awesome PvE, but this being an RP realm, and us lot being total nerds, indulge us: end your application with a short biography, in-character note to the officers, or other story or statement about yourself. Effort is much more appreciated than length or content, and this section is not optional.

(I will be honest - I don't roleplay a lot although he does have a backstory)

Many years ago, he was a high elf enchanter, working in a small enchanting place in Dalaran, before it was unearthed and sent far away. To many, it may have seemed a mediocre job, but it was when he was at his most happiest. He worked with his family and his life partner, a beautiful elf by the name of Keramita.

One day the Demons arrived, and his world was turned upside down. The destruction of Dalaran by the Demons destroyed everything he knew. He lost his shop, his family and his precious Keramita. Life became almost meaningless. He wandered about the ruins, like a zombie, not registering anything.

One day, he met a mage, and it was through that mage, whose name he'll never know, that he learnt about frost and fire. The more that mage showed him the wonders of magic, the more he wanted to be a mage. He would lock himself up in one of the many towers of Dalaran to learn and study the magic, reading books after books, until there was practically nothing left to read. He worked and practiced, and helped the other mages support Dalaran up in the sky. He fought and he bested many monsters. He has vowed to help destroy the Lich King once and for good.

Now, he lives in Silvermoon. Alone, his skin is pale as he stays indoors while he keeps researching, as his thirst for knowledge, for magic is never satisfed. He keeps himself to himself, and should you meet him in the streets of Silvermoon, he will not talk. He can't let anyone in. He choses to stay silent, he doesn't find much pleasures in socialising anymore, not after years of pain and isolation. But when his magic skills are needed, he is there in an instant, prepared to do anything to help and protect the others, and to pull down monsters. He wants nothing more than to get rid of the Demons that inhabit the world, and to make Azeroth a peaceful world again.

A world that he remembers, a world he loved, a world when Keramita was alive.

Additional notes. Optionally, mention anything else you'd like us to know about your application.

I won't be able to use Vent/teamspeak (please ask me personally and I will explain why). I am a patient and friendly player, and I take raiding, etc, pretty seriously. I do research if it is an instance I have not done before. Apart from raiding, I am a bit of an "achievement whore", for wants of better words. :)

Thanks for the application, JD. I'm sure once others get the chance to look it over they'll have some more specific questions for you, but since my knowledge of Mage mechanics isn't so great I'll refrain from getting in over my head.

One thing I would be interested in is getting an idea of the kind of damage you do. Understanding, of course, that numbers aren't everything and we surely won't judge you by that alone, could you self-buff and pound on a level ?? target dummy for a while to give us a benchmark? Send us a screenshot or logfile (whichever is more convenient) to recruitment [at] path.dissentispatriotic [dot] net

Other than that, my only comment is a thumbs up on the two 450 crafting professions and having all of your gear diligently gemmed and enchanted.

Your gear seems good, maybe not ready to ICC or ToGC, but for farm runs for sure.
Your gear isn't far from our requirements to progression runs, but you've been taking good care of your gear (enchants, gems) wich is great thing to see, so if you perform well and can show us you're man for the job, you'll get to the progression runs pretty fast I'm sure.
Also all needed factions are exalted and your professions are maxed wich is also a big plus. We'd definetly need enchanter to our runs to disenchant the gear noone needs.

You also seem like a cool guy and nice to see you writing a background story for your character even when you don't see yourself as roleplayer. So don't get scared about the comments I'm about to give. Take them as friendly hints.

One update that I'd like to see on your gear is metagem. I don't know why you've chosen the SP one since "Chaotic Skyflare Diamond" is the one and only one for caster dps to use at the moment. So I recommend you to get that.

There's two other things you might want to also check out.
First is boot enchant "Tuskarr's Vitality", since you're hit capped. Moving faster means you have more time to do effective dps. If you believe theorycrafters this gives you more benefit in many fights than +12 crit after getting the hit cap. If you go under the hit cap because of replacing the enchant maybe it's not your time for that enchant yet (I can see you've barely reached the cap, tho you don't have mainhand equipped in armory). Anyways, keep the enchant in mind if you're getting trouble with all that hit gear that keeps on coming from doors and windows.
Second thing you might also want to do some research with is your glyphs. Unless the latest patches have changed things there's one better glyph to replace your sorch OR frostfire one (they're pretty equal so you need to choose yourself wich to replace if you're going to do that, you can for example check your recount for wich you do more damage with in your rotation and keep that I quess). I'm sure you'll find answer from class forums, elitist jerks or any other class guide around.

My only concern is that you lack experience about raiding guilds. Ofcourse these things might be clear for you already, but since your pve-part of application was pretty short and you didn't mention these in it I'd like to point few things out.

You gave a comment about "being on top" on damagemeter, and since you didn't write much about your raid role (including the performance) I'd like to remind that top dps isn't always best performer. Ofcourse it has big weight in progressing and smooth farming, but the raiding is so much more than big numbers in damagemeter. So keep in mind that surviving the fight (moving from fires, keeping eye on your threat etc) and helping others to survive (killing adds, picking up items for fight etc) is the priority. You also might have many other extra jobs as mage in raids, so I hope you're comfortable and skilled with those other roles (CC like you mentioned, spell stealing, kiting, dispelling curses).
Personally I prefer checking damagemeters After the fight instead of keeping eye on them during the fight, especially when I'm on encounter wich isn't on farm.

The other thing I'd like to mention is propably pretty clear for you also, but I'd like to mention this because we've had some problems with this in guild lately. I hope you understand the dedication raiding needs, even when it's not HC stuff like on relam top guilds.
If you sign up for the raid, you really need to show up or let people know you can't come if possible. Ofcourse there's always a change something sudden comes up and you can't make it, but generally don't be greedy with sign ups if you've not seriously planned to spend the night with guild when there's a raid night. And if you know you might be bit late, getting reagents, flasks and such ready on time and logging out near the instance might be good idea.
The waiting is always waste of raid time for nine other people and in the long run its frustrating if you need to wait the same person from week to another. This also effects for your changes to get a raid spot in the future even when you'd otherwise be a good raider.
Ofcourse this is just one part of the mentioned "dedication" but like said, this has been a problem lately in guild with some people and that's why I'm pointing it also in here.

Anyways.
Good luck with your application :) You'll get my vote.
/salute

Post Re: Silvanesti - Frostfire Mage
Thank you, I like getting advice on how to make the best of my mage :) I will look into the glyphs and look to change the metagem to Chaotic Skyflare Diamond.

Also when I meant by staying on top, what I meant was making sure that I am not slacking in my rotation, staying on top of things, I didn't mean I want to make sure I am top of the list - sorry about that.

And I should let you know that I am not a guy, hehe! :D

Haha :D

I have changed the glyphs - I forgot that the scorch one changed, as I previously had it for putting 5 stacks at once on the target. I have also got the Chaotic Skyflare Diamond. I am still 14% hitcap with my weapon so I will hold off on the enchant.

Again, thank you for your input.
