The big news is that we've decided not to continue beyond Cataclysm as an active guild. We will hold on to the in-game guild registration (the Luminous Path still owns a substantial library), but things have been 'disbanded' in every meaningful sense.
All former members of the guild are welcome to return to the forums, which will be kept alive as a way for Luminous Path players to keep in touch with one another. The 'Forum' link above leads to the login and to a public post explaining how to get back into the forums if you've lost your old LP login and password.
I know I speak both for the original officers: myself, Ekhan, Zalmoxis, and Kekrops, and for the team that took over from us: Vedder, Savian, Jotra, Arache, and Myisha, when I say that it was our pleasure to play with you, and we had a damn good time. Please keep in touch. If you're still playing WoW, add each other as friends. If not, come get your ass whooped by your old guild master in multiplayer Civilization V. We'll try to organize the occasional alumni event (Ekhan and I have a TF2 tournament in the works), and we want to hear from all of you every now and then about what you're doing and where.
As a final sign-off to this phase of the Luminous Path, I present —
I don't know why I write these anymore; they just go in a drawer afterwards. The Lich King has fallen. We thought we were all saved, but the world is ending around us. Even as I speak, elementals are flooding Orgrimmar. I thought your disappearance and reappearance was somehow connected to Arthas, to the Scourge, but everywhere I look: in every shadow, around every dark corner, under the hood of every cultist in this dusty city, I seem to see you for a second. The visions won't stop. Is this what you were trying to tell us, to point us toward? Was the threat greater than Arthas all along? Have I, fixed in my short-sighted vengeful hatred for the man who destroyed our people, missed the signs of some greater threat?
Ekhan is not here to explain it to me—the druids have all been called back to Moonglade. Zalmoxis is... Zalmoxis is beneath the feet of Ysera now. I've felt anger and disgust and fear and rage in my hundred and thirty years, but the memory of that moment in the Dragonshrine brings nothing but blank sadness. The thought of beginning this struggle again makes me wearier than an elf should be in his youth. Fatigue is how we die; it was how we died even before we could. I cannot escape the feeling that a lot of us are much closer to death than we realize.
"ESCHATON", the Luminous Path's pre-Cataclysm RP saga, is coming to an end. Where will you be when the Gjallarhorn sounds?
Ten members of the Luminous Path—Thórva, Ekhan, Zalmoxis, Nimoe, Kainé, Gorganoth, Aleyá, Savian, Zuuko, and Elial—gathered from 23-25 July in Berlin for some LARP. Turns out Currywurst and Vodka are almost as good a group buff as fish feasts. Guild members can access more pictures through a link on the private forums.
After weeks of wipes on what is, two tiers later, still a fiendishly unforgiving boss, we were finally able to bring Reply Code Alpha to Rhonin and save the world!

in Horde Strict 10-Man Achievements and Strict 10-Man Progress (16th/17th overall: GuildOx), right behind Brewmasters of Kalimdor and Thirteenth Regiment. Tonight's achievements undoubtedly helped. It's amazing to think how far this guild has come in this raiding season; I look forward to wearing Lich King kill titles alongside all of you in a few weeks' time.
We had all known for some time that our very own First Luminaire and bodaciously dreadlocked Swede Kallbrand the Seeker had been working on the Loremaster achievement. It is, after all, quite a grind. So before last Thursday's raid, everyone was congratulatory when this flashed across our screens:
What a coincidence, we all thought! Loremaster will always be a triple achievement if you leave the last zone to Outland or Northrend, but to finish the Nesingwary line in Sholazar, the overall Nesingwary achievement, and Loremaster all at once—what were the chances? And that's when this started to happen:
10/29 20:04:58.923 Kallbrand has earned the achievement Explore Blade's Edge Mountains!
10/29 20:04:58.925 Kallbrand has earned the achievement Explore Outland!
10/29 20:04:58.928 Kallbrand has earned the achievement World Explorer!
Everyone immediately smelled something fishy:
10/29 20:05:03.223 [Guild] Aziony: kek
10/29 20:05:06.455 [Guild] Thórva: showoff
10/29 20:05:07.881 [Guild] Ekhan: what the hell man
10/29 20:05:22.300 [Guild] Gorganoth: He planned that
10/29 20:05:25.677 [Guild] Kainé: So did.
And then things began to slip a little bit into the incredible:
10/29 20:05:32.022 Kallbrand has earned the achievement The Northrend Gourmet!
10/29 20:05:32.025 Kallbrand has earned the achievement Hail to the Chef!
It was only then that the extent of the setup—the planning it must have required—started to dawn on some of us:
10/29 20:05:35.573 [Guild] Ekhan: how do you get from sholazar to blade's edge that quickly
10/29 20:05:37.475 [Guild] Ekhan: SERIOUSLY
10/29 20:05:37.566 Kallbrand has earned the achievement Tricks and Treats of Outland!
10/29 20:05:37.568 Kallbrand has earned the achievement Tricks and Treats of Azeroth!
10/29 20:05:37.571 Kallbrand has earned the achievement Hallowed Be Thy Name!
10/29 20:05:37.574 Kallbrand has earned the achievement What A Long, Strange Trip It's Been!
Unbefreakinglievable. We're talking weeks of preparation here, folks. In fact it could be argued that that last achievement was a year in the making. Only to spring the trap at 20:05 on raid night, when he knew that most people would be online. Fellow Pathwalkers were beside themselves. Kainé managed to squeak out something positive.
10/29 20:05:38.455 [Guild] Gorganoth: Wtf
10/29 20:05:43.057 [Guild] Kainé: Haha.
10/29 20:05:45.462 [Guild] Thórva: hahahaha
10/29 20:05:50.846 [Guild] Gorganoth: Lol
10/29 20:05:51.238 [Guild] Ekhan: HAX
10/29 20:05:53.884 [Guild] Kainé: Congrats on your mount!
And there you have it, folks. Loremaster, Chef, the Explorer, and the violet proto-drake in the space of about 90 seconds. I think our palatonk said it best when he said:
The beasts, the demon, the champions, the sisters, the spider—we've beaten them all. It's time to start harvesting their loot and attempting the heroic modes. Still looking for a few good healers, though, so click on that forum link and get applying!
The Luminous Path is a Horde raiding guild on Defias Brotherhood EU. Though our main focus is steady PvE progression, we also have an in-depth roleplaying backstory and justification. Feel free to read the story or visit our recruitment forums.
